Northern Learning Lodge is a teacher-developed collection of interactive learning environments, classroom simulations, games, and educational tools designed to make learning persistent, connected, and consequential.
Built for the new Alberta Social Studies Draft Curriculum
The Grade 7 and Grade 8 learning environments are specifically designed according to the outcomes of the new Alberta Social Studies Draft Curriculum for Grades 7 and 8. Curriculum content is placed inside persistent classroom worlds where students investigate, make decisions, complete quests, build communities, govern societies, and experience the consequences of their choices.
Rather than treating each lesson as an isolated activity, Northern Learning Lodge connects learning across the year. Student progress, classroom events, simulations, resources, and changing world conditions can become part of a continuing experience.
Grade 7
Grade 7 focuses on the growth of a community and country. Students begin with a small settlement that develops alongside their study of Canadian history.
Grade 8
Grade 8 takes a different approach, placing students inside a civic and political environment where institutions, competing interests, public decisions, economics, and government become part of the learning experience.
A growing collection for teachers
Northern Learning Lodge is also being developed as a home for free teacher resources. Future public resources may include:
- classroom simulations and games;
- activity and lesson materials;
- educational applications and extensions;
- interactive learning tools; and
- resources for game-based and simulation-based teaching.
